Any Skyrim fans who like to sneak around the Tamriel province, breaking into buildings and stealing goods, will have a tough time of things with this recent mod that basically kills the Dragonborn whenever they try to be stealthy. While known for its open-world adventuring, The Elder Scrolls 5 is also a pretty lighthearted RPG, affording players the opportunity to lead a digital life and perhaps settle down as a farmer or become a mixer of potions.

One of the reasons the 11-year-old title is still going strong to this day is because of the many ways that fans can play Skyrim, with the game boasting a variety of character builds and playthroughs, not to mention all the mods that are readily available. Whether someone wants to put all their stock into being stronger or have a preference for a more magic-based Dragonborn, TES5 can pretty much cater to any taste, and that includes being a thief.

However, the days of being a stealthy anti-hero are over for any Skyrim fan who decides to try out "Sneaking Kills," a modification from a Nexus Mods creator that does exactly what the title suggests. Now, whenever the player goes into stealth mode, the game will instantly kill them, regardless of how powerful they are or how much health they have. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason behind this custom addition, but it effectively makes being a sneaky character impossible. If nothing else, it will certainly deter a lot of people from taking on the role of a burglar or clandestine archer.

For many, Skyrim's stealth mechanic is an essential part of the game, allowing the Dragonborn to go undetected, pickpocketing gold or taking out hordes of bandits without being spotted. To have that taken away with the "Sneaking Kills" mod will really change the way some fans play. It's certainly not for everyone, but it could possibly serve as a harsh reminder that there are ways to traverse the world of Skyrim without resorting to being sneaky.

Over the years, modders have been a vital asset to Skyrim, making the already expansive RPG almost endless with playthrough possibilities. There are so many different ways to change TES5, either through tweaking graphics or adding new quests and characters, that it's no wonder the game's legacy continues today. Only time will tell whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will be able to similarly boast such a legendary status.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
