The hit FX animated spy comedy Archer is now in its home stretch. The show's final season officially has a premiere date, giving fans of the long-running series one last chance to hang out with their problematic faves.

14 years ago, series creator Adam Reed kicked off a series that many would have likely been shocked to hear has kept going for this long. Right out of the gate, Archer was chock-full of running gags and raunchy humor while maintaining a surprising amount of heart. Characters were snarky and selfish, but a human element to the show made fans fall in love with them, riding along as their lives and stories became more zany and unpredictable over the years. Now, it looks like that wild train of a series is finally pulling into the station.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Archer's 14th and final season will kick off on August 30th, 2023. This will begin with a two-episode premiere. The upcoming release was announced alongside several others in FX's slate of shows, including What We Do in the Shadows season 5 on July 13th and Reservation Dogs season 3 on August 2nd, the latter of which will arrive exclusively on Hulu. Finally, Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Givens will return in Justified: City Primeval, debuting on July 18th.

Archer began life focusing on the perpetually drunk and endlessly quotable spy Sterling Archer, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin. At first, it seemed almost like a workplace comedy with plenty of action and set pieces sprinkled in. But what kept fans coming back were the characters. Among them was Malory Archer (played by the late Jessica Walter), whose love for her son often came at odds with her job as his boss and her cynical nature.

There were plenty of other characters, of course, and their increasingly unhinged personalities helped facilitate the show's many unexpected and often delightfully baffling changes to the status quo. While Sterling Archer's own dumb decisions were the catalyst for many adventures, other times were easily a group effort. This included the team becoming drug runners, finding themselves in a surreal alternate 1940s setting dreamed up by a comatose Sterling, and any hilariously dangerous side projects brought on by Archer's resident mad scientist, Krieger.

Some fans may have fallen off as Archer continually changed its formula, but those who stuck around have had a good 14 years of laughs with enough heartfelt punctuation to keep things fresh. Along with Benjamin and Walter, the show's excellent voice cast rounded out by Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Lucky Yates, and even Reed did plenty of the heavy lifting too. So here's to one of the modern animated greats. Archer was one-of-a-kind.

Archer season 14 will premiere its first 2 episodes on August 30th on FXX, with Hulu streaming them the following day.
