Beloved actors Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are now both involved with Star Wars projects, and they've shown that their collaboration in life extends to the fun space wizard franchise.

When Winstead was cast as Hera Syndulla in Ahsoka, fans immediately got excited. Not only would they get to see the Twi'lek ace pilot from Star Wars Rebels in live-action for the first time, but she would be played by an actress who already shares a connection with a long-time Star Wars star. Her husband, McGregor, has been playing Obi-Wan Kenobi for decades, putting the married couple in the unique position of sharing this exciting franchise. It's so exciting that he had nothing but encouragement to share with Winstead when she joined.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Winstead revealed how her husband reacted when she became part of the Star Wars family. "He was just so happy and excited for me," she said. "He really was. He's just like, 'There's just nothing else like being embraced by this community and being a part of it. It's just such a special thing.'" Considering how integral McGregor is in the Star Wars franchise now, that's certainly the right attitude.

McGregor already shared the Star Wars excitement with his son. So now Winstead fittingly seems to share in the excitement, and she's taken her husband's words about the fans to heart. "Just to get to be a part of that world and to be part of something that people care so much about and characters that people are so invested in is such a special thing," she continued. "So it's kind of amazing that we get to be in this world together, but not together, you know?" This refers to how, while both Winstead and McGregor are now playing prominent Star Wars characters, they likely won't ever meet due to Obi-Wan being much older and hiding during the time Hera is active.

Their shared love of Star Wars seemed to be around even before Winstead joined up. "I love that y'all are like a Star Wars family," said Ahsoka lead and co-star Rosario Dawson in the same interview. "I know when Obi-Wan was coming out, and you were telling me that in the anticipation of it coming up, people were just walking up like, 'May the Force be with you.'" Winstead loved the experience. "It was so great," she replied. "It was when Obi-Wan was coming out, like there was this special time that people were like, 'Oh, God, we know it's coming, and we want to tell you we approve.' It was so nice."

Fans of certain franchises can be a fickle bunch. On the one hand, Star Wars fans can often resort to terrible racist attacks and other unfair complaints. But when they come together with their love of something, it's a magical moment. It looks like that's what both McGregor and Winstead have been experiencing, so here's hoping that trend continues for them and everyone else who wants to enjoy being part of this beloved series.

Ahsoka is currently set to premiere on Disney Plus in August 2023.
