Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will release on August 25, FromSoftware has revealed. This confirmation of the previously leaked Armored Core 6 release date arrived at the end of an extended gameplay trailer showcasing some jaw-dropping boss fights from the upcoming mech action game.

FromSoftware originally announced Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon in December 2022, but has shared precious little information about the project ever since. The last installment in the mech combat series was Armored Core: Verdict Day, which released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 a decade ago.

The newly launched gameplay trailer indicates that Fires of Rubicon will stay true to the Armored Core formula despite being a soft reboot of the long-running franchise. The environments of planet Rubicon 3 seen in the video hence seem just as bleak as the past games' settings, though it would appear that the boss battles in the upcoming title will be getting even more grandiose. Not least because some of the enemies featured in the new trailer are so big that they can barely fit into the frame. The boss designs themselves have also gotten a bit more varied compared to Verdict Day, as suggested by a fight with a giant mech sand worm that can be glimpsed around the 1:53 mark.

When is the Armored Core 6 Release Date?

In terms of equipment, the new trailer confirms that energy swords, flamethrowers, and grease guns will be part of the package. The video also suggests that players will be able to switch between shoulder-mounted artillery and melee weapons at will. While that's similar to the previous installments, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will seemingly place a much bigger emphasis on melee combat, which has been prominently featured throughout the new trailer.

Fans of the franchise will also be happy to see that the gameplay from the new trailer is just as fast-paced and erratic as the past games in the series, with today's showcase thus dispelling any concerns that Fires of Rubicon will play like Dark Souls with mechs. That's not to say the game will be any less unforgiving than other FromSoftware titles; after all, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon already promised a "stiff challenge" to the fans.

Besides Armored Core 6, FromSoftware also has the previously announced Elden Ring expansion Shadow of Erdtree on the way, but it has yet to attach a release date to that piece of DLC. Beyond that, FromSoftware reportedly has an unnannounced project in the pipeline, which isn't likely to see the light of day anytime soon.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon launches August 25 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
