As Destiny 2: Lightfall expands the reaches of the Destiny universe and takes the fight to Neomuna near Neptune, the Season of Defiance will tell the story of the fight against the invasion of The Witness and Calus' Shadow Legion on Earth. Beloved characters will become key figures during the Season of Defiance, rewarding powerful and beautiful armor and weapons to protect the people of The Last City on Earth against the invading forces.
Neomuna may be the grand setting of Destiny 2: Lightfall, but a new trailer reminds Guardians of the fight at home. After players complete the Lightfall campaign, there will be more stories and loot to find while defending Earth and The Last City from the invading forces of The Witness and Calus. A new trailer reveals two beloved characters taking point in the Season of Defiance, as well as new armor and interesting new weapons.
Season of Defiance content will continue to move the story of Destiny 2 forward in aftermath of The Witness' invasion and lay the groundwork for the upcoming year. Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken narrates the trailer as Shipwright Amanda Holliday fights the Forces of Darkness in space. Allies and civilians on Earth are being taken captive by Calus' Shadow Legion and the Taken. Mara Sov's command of the Ascendant Plane and other powerful abilities will be key in infiltrating Shadow Legion defenses and freeing the captives. Amanda Holliday is seen and heard in the trailer, but her role in the season's story will be revealed over time.
The seasonal Exotic weapon is the Verglas Curve Combat Bow with a unique trait that adds up to five arrows in one shot that do Stasis damage and freeze enemies that are hit. The Verglas Curve is accompanied by a bevy of new Legendary Weapons and Armor from Mara Sov and in the Awoken style. The new matchmade activity is called the Defiant Battlegrounds. This activity will have Guardians using the tricks of the Ascendant Plane to break into Shadow Legion defenses and free captives from new Pyramid structures. Guardians will be grinding every activity they can in search of powerful new weapons in preparation for The Root of Nightmares Raid.
Destiny 2 is hoping that major changes to the game's systems will help new and returning players get familiar with the game while continuing to reward experienced players with meaningful gear, fun activities, and captivating lore throughout the season. Season of Defiance opens the next year of ongoing storytelling in Destiny 2 and after the events at the conclusion of the Season of Seraph, the expectations of seasonal storylines hit a new high as the incursion of the greatest threat in the Destiny 2 universe looms.
