While the Marvel Legends Star-Lord helmet released in time for the hype surrounding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, it was not a direct tie-in with the forthcoming film. Hasbro does, however, have a big Marvel Legends figure set ready to go for the film and Game Rant has a closer look at each of the 8 figures. Even better, this is a Build-A-Figure set, so there is actually a ninth figure available.

Each of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 figures comes in plastic-free packaging, which has been a major plus for Hasbro for a while. The box art puts each Marvel Cinematic Universe character front and center, showcasing both a potential pose for each figure and the accessories that are included.

As with past Marvel Legends movie figure sets like the Black Panther Wakanda Forever collection, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 characters are part of a Build-A-Figure collection. What this means is that six of the figures come a part of another figure, which for Guardians 3 is Cosmo the Spacedog. Most collectors will want to target the Build-A-Figure releases since Cosmo is such an iconic member of the Marvel Comics universe and was just recently added to the MCU via the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

In terms of the figure designs, Hasbro has gone out with the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Marvel Legends collection. Each figure is wonderfully detailed, ensuring that the likeness to its live-action counterpart is accurate but also pops on display. Little details around each figure’s facial features, for example, have subtle highlights to make sure that the light catches them just right. Of particular note are the antennae on Mantis and Star-Lord's facial hair.

On top of that, the figures feature plenty of points of articulation for creating signature poses from the Marvel films or just to put them on display. Most of the characters can pivot at all their major joints (elbows, torso/hips, knees, ankles) and they include holes in the bottoms of their feet for use with support stands. Whether it’s for display or play, the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 figures should be an excellent addition to a fan’s collection.

Marvel Legends Star-Lord (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Star-Lord figure includes a decent likeness of Chris Pratt complete with the character’s more ostentatious facial hair. There is no swappable helmet for this version of Star-Lord but the figure does include his signature Quad Blasters. And we would imagine any that own the Vol 1 or Vol 2 Star-Lord figures can swap on the helmet head to give this Vol 3 rendition a look that more closely resembles the comics.

Marvel Legends Adam Warlock (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Arguably the main selling point of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set, Adam Warlock is the newest addition to the roster. Only teased at the end of Vol 2 and now fully realized by actor Will Poulter, Warlock has a stunning cape to give him all the appropriate flying poses that collectors could want. The Adam Warlock figure also includes the space helmet and tail for the Cosmo Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends Groot (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Another stunner from the collection, Groot is the biggest of the Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 figures. All of the texture in Groot’s tree-like skin is so well done and the figure includes a set of swappable fists, but the massive wings are what really make this one stand out. It also doesn't hurt that Groot comes with an adorable Baby Rocket Racoon figure.

Marvel Legends Mantis (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Like Adam Warlock, the Mantis figure is more about the posing than the accessories. The character’s left hand is locked into a pose that suggests her empath ability and the details in the hair and antennae are very meticulous. The figure also includes the back right leg for the Cosmo Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends Drax (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

For the first time, Drax's Marvel Legends figure has a clothed torso, covered by the same Guardians team uniform as most of the other figures. Admittedly, that likely made this version a little easier to design without all the raised tattooing on his chest, arms, and back, but the likeness on the face still has a good amount of detail. Drax’s figure includes his two knives, which can slide into the figure's hands or also store in his boot holsters. The figure also includes the front right leg for the Cosmo Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends Kraglin (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Sporting the same mohawk as the dearly departed Yondu, the Kraglin figure has a really cool accessory in the Yaka Arrow. Not only does it slot into the holster on Kraglin, the arrow also features an intricate energy trail to simulate its movement in flight. The figure also comes with a knife that can holster into a slot on Kraglin’s back, and it includes Cosmo’s back left leg for the Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends Nebula (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Also a newer member of the Guardians team, Nebula sports a trio of accessories: a small blaster, a large blaster, and a sword. She also has one of her arms exposed, giving the opportunity to add a lot more detail to the textures outside the uniform. Nebula comes with the front left leg for the Cosmo Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends Rocket Racoon (GOTG Vol 3)

Buy at Hasbro Pulse

Rocket Racoon seems to figure pretty significantly in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 story, or at least what director James Gunn has led fans to believe. Outside of the baby Rocket that comes with Groot, this is the smallest figure of the bunch but the exposed fur sections offer cool contrast and detail. He also comes with one of the biggest weapons – a massive blaster that's fitting for the character. Rocket is a crucial part of the Build-A-Figure collection, as he packs in the full torso and head for Cosmo the Spacedog.

Build-A-Figure Cosmo the Spacedog

Putting Cosmo together is a bit difficult when getting the leg joints to socket and getting the head to attach with the helmet on, but once assembled it’s a great figure. Cosmo is a character that most Marvel Comics fans never would have thought would make it to live action and now there is a Marvel Legends figure. The detailing on the suit and the dog are great and while it does require buying 6 other figures, this is such a perfect choice for B-A-F.

Obviously, there are some omissions from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 Marvel Legends roster, but the majority of the core cast is here with some fun accessories, lots of design elements to make them stand out, and the promise of a Cosmo the Spacedog for those that collect most of the figures. And with the movie not too far off, fans will be able to see how all of these characters interact with each other and how their accessories might factor into the story. Groot, in particular, has us very intrigued.
