Wizards of the Coast just released official Dungeons and Dragons stat blocks for the major characters from the upcoming Honor Among Thieves movie. These stat blocks are fully compatible with 5th Edition, allowing players to drop these characters into their Dungeons and Dragons campaigns with little effort.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is the upcoming D&D-inspired action fantasy film produced by Paramount Pictures. Through a series of circumstances, a band of unlikely heroes led by Chris Pine’s Edgin Darvis must team up to thwart Sofina the Red Wizard–the main villain of Honor Among Theives played by Daisy Head–before she conquers the Sword Coast with an army of undead.
Now, Dungeons and Dragons has given players a sneak preview of the skills, abilities, and special equipment these characters have. There are seven stat blocks in total: Edgin and his companions Doric, Holga, Simon, and Xenk, Hugh Grant’s devilishly charming Forge Fitzwilliam, and Sofina herself. Each of these stat blocks has a number of fun, flavorful abilities to add some excitement to any Dungeons and Dragons encounter.
These stat blocks also give players a glimpse of what to expect in the movie. Forge’s alignment is Neutral Evil, and has an ability that lets him score a critical hit on allies, suggesting he will probably betray the party at some point. Sofina has the ability to call down meteors from the sky and raise wraiths, hinting at some powers she may use. When players see Honor Among Thieves, they will have to see if they can spot these abilities and items from the stat blocks on the big screen.
Players are excited to see these awesome Dungeons and Dragons character stat blocks. The backstories and abilities found within not only gave players a sneak preview of Honor Among Thieves, but also towards what the enemies in One D&D might look like. As the stats follow the simple-but-dynamic precedents set in Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse, players can expect to see more of the same when One D&D launches next year.
Some players couldn’t help but notice some oddities with the stat blocks, especially surrounding Doric the Druid. One D&D recently released a playtest for the Druid class with a new take on Wild Shape that works drastically different from how it does in 5th Edition or with Doric's Change Shape ability. Many players were critical of this new system, so Dungeons and Dragons may change the Druid Wild Shape to work more like it does in Doric’s stat block if it gets a lot of negative feedback from the upcoming survey for One D&D.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 31.
