Assassin’s Creed Mirage will not be released on Steam, according to a new announcement. The game is among the most anticipated Ubisoft games for 2023, so that’s fairly disappointing news for fans of the franchise who play on PC.

After a few more RPG-focused releases, Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises to be more like the original games. Set in Baghdad with the assassin Basim as the protagonist, the title will return the franchise to its roots by focusing primarily on stealth and parkour once more. There are high hopes that Mirage may appeal to those that preferred the original Assassin's Creed style of gameplay.

Unfortunately, PC players who only use Steam won’t be able to play Assassin’s Creed Mirage at launch. Aside from the console release, players will only be able to play Assassin's Creed Mirage on the Epic Games Store or through the official Ubisoft Store. Ubisoft has yet to clarify whether the title will be seen on Steam at a later date or not, so it may still come to the popular platform at some point in the future.

Assassin's Creed Mirage follows a pretty disappointing 2022 for Ubisoft, in which the company did not do as well as it could in its fiscal year, reporting an 18% drop in its revenue when compared to 2021. In one year, its revenue dropped from $2.31 billion to the equivalent of $1.97 billion. So, the release of the title will be a pretty big event for the company, and paid exclusivity for the Epic Games Store may play a part in this, as the game will certainly sell a lot less on PC for not being available on the most popular platform.

Recently, Assassin’s Creed Mirage got a new trailer, which showed fast-paced action and several stealth segments in the Middle-Eastern city of Baghdad, as well as an overall feel that closely resembles the first game of the franchise. However, it remains to be seen whether the game will be able to cater both to traditional fans who played the original Assassin's Creed back in the day and want the traditional experience and the new crowd who only played the later games and expects a vast world filled with activities.

Assassin's Creed Mirage launches on October 12 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
