When walking around at night in Tears of the Kingdom, players will often notice small, bright glowing insects floating in the air. Fireflies can be quite difficult to catch because they will fly away as soon as they notice that something's approaching them, so gamers will have to do it carefully. This guide will help players catch their first Sunset Firefly in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How To Find Sunset Fireflies

Gamers won't have to go to any specific location in order to find this insect. Sunset Fireflies mostly appear near wooden areas and lakes, but they're overall pretty common in Hyrule.

Fireflies are nocturnal creatures, therefore players will only be able to find them between 9 PM and 5 AM. Thankfully, gamers can easily change the time of day in Tears of the Kingdom by resting.

How To Catch Sunset Fireflies

Sunset Fireflies will flee if the player is too loud near them - just like various other creatures, such as frogs and crickets. In order to catch fireflies, they must not hear Link as he approaches them, so the player has to crouch before getting too close to them. Once close enough, they have to press the Take button as soon as it appears on-screen.

To increase their chances of successfully catching a Sunset Firefly, the player should be as stealthy as possible. There are several ways to reduce the amount of noise Link makes when moving in Tears of the Kingdom.

  • Stealth Set Armor - players could get the Stealth Set in Breath of the Wild, and they can once again acquire it in Tears of the Kingdom by purchasing it in Kakariko Village. It's not great defensive-wise, but it increases Link's stealth as well as his movement speed at night.
  • Stealth Elixirs - Stealth potions can be made by mixing monster parts with any ingredient that mentions its silencing abilities in its description. Sunset Fireflies are actually one of the creatures in the game that provide this bonus.
  • Crouching - if the player has limited resources, they can simply crouch as they approach the Sunset Fireflies, but they must do it slowly and carefully. Even if the player has used a Stealth Elixir or equipped stealthy clothing, they should always be crouched when attempting to get close to fireflies.

With Sunset Fireflies in their inventories, players will be able to craft tons of Stealth Elixirs. These potions are quite handy for horse taming, catching fairies, and sneaking up on enemies.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available now on Nintendo Switch.
