As the launch of Street Fighter 6 draws closer, Capcom announced that it will host an open beta soon for players to download and try out the game before release. The announcement came months after Street Fighter 6 ended its second closed beta test, which included a number of features that were well-received by players compared to its predecessors.

As the next entry in Capcom's long-running fighting game series, Street Fighter 6 has players hoping that it will fare better than its criticized predecessor, Street Fighter 5. Recently, Capcom released a free single-player demo of Street Fighter 6 for PS4 and PS5 players to try out and see how the game looks and controls prior to launch. With multiple control layouts, improvements to the graphics and art, and plenty of customization options, a lot is riding on Street Fighter 6 to succeed where Street Fighter 5 failed. Soon, more players will be able to give it a go.

The open beta for Street Fighter 6 will begin on Friday, May 19, at 07:00 UTC, and end on Monday, May 22, at 07:00 UTC. This means that the open beta will only be available for 72 hours. Interested players can download the open beta ahead of time, starting on Tuesday, May 16, at 7:00 UTC. Unlike the previous two closed beta tests for Street Fighter 6, the open beta will include cross-play for PS5, Xbox, and Steam players to test their mettle against one another. PS4 players will have to wait until the game's full release, as they will not be included in the open beta. However, the open beta will include the character creator, battle hub, and the same eight fighters that were featured in the second closed beta. These fighters include longtime fan favorite Ryu and newcomer Luke, who has been featured prominently on the game's cover.

Street Fighter 6 Open Beta Period

  • Starts Friday, May 19, at 07:00 UTC/3:00 AM Eastern
  • Ends Monday, May 22, at 07:00 UTC/3:00 AM Eastern

In addition, the Street Fighter 6 open beta will require 25 GB of storage space. By comparison, the second closed beta test required 42 GB. Given that the full release of Street Fighter 6 will be 60 GB once pre-downloads are available later this month, players will need to ensure they have the space they need to play on the platform they want, as well as link their Capcom ID to the system of their choice.

Capcom stated on its website that the open beta may also have periods of maintenance, and asked players to keep an eye on social media if anything happens. But, between the imminent launch, the open beta, and the single-player demo for Street Fighter 6, the hype for the game is real.

Street Fighter 6 launches on June 2 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
