On February 26, Stardew Valley celebrated its seventh anniversary since the game's original launch on PC. To mark the occasion, creator and developer Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone shared a brief but heartfelt message on social media and on the Stardew Valley Steam page, where he also gave a glimpse at the near future of the game.

First released in 2016, Stardew Valley is a 2D farming and lifestyle RPG made as a love letter to the original Harvest Moon games and other similar games from the 16-bit era. Since its initial launch on PC, Stardew Valley has been consistently rated as Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam and has launched to modern consoles and mobile devices. In a post to mark the seventh anniversary, ConcernedApe gave a brief view of one of the key features of the upcoming 1.6 update for Stardew Valley. Though it will still be small in scope at face value, the update looks to bring more support for some things players enjoy.

According to ConcernedApe's note, Stardew Valley's 1.6 update will bring additional support for mods. It should make it not only easier for players to mod the game but for mod makers to have more tools to bring their ideas to life. With Stardew Valley mods for co-op and single-player files proving to be a popular part of the game, the update should bring more potential into the mix. However, ConcernedApe did not give a date for when players could expect the 1.6 update to be released. When it does come out, PC players will get the first crack at it, followed by console and mobile players. Only time will tell when that day comes.

Recently, Stardew Valley released Patch 1.5.6.39 for the mobile versions of the game, which was the game's eighth update of the year at the time of writing. It brought a number of changes to enhance the game's quality of life and fixed some outstanding issues. In his letter, ConcernedApe thanked fans and players across the world for supporting the game, and for giving him the opportunity to do so. To mark the occasion, Stardew Valley is currently 50% off on Steam, down to $7.49.

As for ConcernedApe, as has been the case for the last few years, he is continuing work on Haunted Chocolatier. However, ConcernedApe's next project has no release timetable at the time of writing. Fans of Stardew Valley and ConcernedApe's work will have to wait and see when Haunted Chocolatier will see the light of day. Given ConcernedApe's track record, players will be in for a treat when that day finally arrives.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
