A Hogwarts Legacy player has recently shown off a video where their character seemingly causes a giant spider to back away in fear. Giant spiders are a fixture in Hogwarts Legacy which players encounter as enemies at various points in the game.

Giant spiders are among the most common enemies in Hogwarts Legacy that players can expect to face. These enemies can be found in forests, plains, ruins, and caves throughout the game's overworld, and can have various types, ranging from Thornback Shooters to the Acromantula. Like all enemies in the game, giant spiders also increase in level as the player does so, ensuring that they continue to pose some degree of challenge.

The video's creator, Reyeux, posted it on Reddit on May 25. In the video, Reyeux is shown fighting against a giant spider known as a Venomous Matriarch, which only has a small amount of health left. Reyeux slowly walks toward the weakened spider, which crawls backward as they approach, making it look like the spider is cowering away from them. Finally, they finish off the spider with a Diffindo spell.

In the game, most of the different kinds of spiders have specific behaviors and tactics that they will rarely, if ever, deviate from. Matriarchs such as the Venomous Matriarch, specifically, are among the most aggressive giant spiders in the game. They will consistently lunge at the player when within short or medium range, and almost never keep their distance. This should be kept in mind both when encountering them in the overworld and in side-quests such as "Tangled Web". As for why this spider backed away, the Redditor theorizes that it was simply because it was following its pathing, as it had chased the player away from its normal area.

This video, apparently based around toying with an enemy in the game despite the threat it might otherwise pose, could to an extent be compared to similar trends in other games. For instance, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild players are often known to pull stunts such as attempting to defeat enemies in increasingly impressive, difficult, or humorous ways. Reyeux's video - alongside other such videos - could be an indication that Hogwarts Legacy players are developing their own practice of creating videos where they perform new and creative feats.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be available for Nintendo Switch on November 14.
