World of Warcraft: Dragonflight has enjoyed a slew of rewarding content from both in and outside the game in recent months. Players have gotten their hands on a number of awesome and unique cosmetics, especially through features such as World of Warcraft’s Trading Post and Twitch drops. However, not all players are happy with the way some of these rewards are implemented.
One recent addition to the game is two more ways for players to get their hands on a famous WoW mount called Tyrael’s Charger. It pays homage to the eponymous character in the Diablo franchise, featuring the aesthetic of an armored Pegasus imbued with angelic energy. This mount remained unobtainable for over ten years, but the main problem is not its sudden reappearance, but its relationship with World of Warcraft's new feature, the Trading Post.
World of Warcraft Players Worry the Trading Post Will Clash With the In-Game Shop
Loads of toys, transmogs, pets, and mounts have made their way into Dragonflight, but, like Tyrael’s Charger, not all of them are brand new. Many returning models, either previously unused or unobtainable for years, have been made available to players through either Twitch promotions or the Warcraft Trading Post. With this in mind, Tyrael’s Charger is not unusual in its sudden loss of exclusivity. It was originally given to players in 2011 who purchased a 12-month World of Warcraft subscription, and it then made a brief appearance in WoW’s in-game store as part of the 2023 New Year’s sale.
Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft will be hosting an event to celebrate the launch of Diablo’s long-overdue fourth installment. As part of these celebrations, players will be able to earn a number of Diablo-themed cosmetics, including Tyrael’s Charger. The event will only last for a short while, but it’s likely many players will add the angelic mount to their collection.
Some believe that players who obtained Tyrael's Charger all those years ago should keep hold of their unique mount and that it should remain unobtainable forever. If the charger was a mount that required some epic feat on the player’s behalf, then naturally its reward should remain a symbol of that achievement. However, the beloved Diablo-themed mount required nothing more than a subscription purchase, so many disagree with the sentiment.
What's causing the most problems, however, is the strong evidence that Tyrael’s Charger will soon arrive in World of Warcraft’s Trading Post, likely after the Diablo event has ended. The player base is especially torn on the casual interchange of cosmetics between the Trading Post and the in-game shop. By using real money instead of the Trading Post to purchase a mount, players with cash to spend will inevitably gain the advantage of hoarding more Trader's Tender.
The most beneficial decision would likely involve keeping Trading Post cosmetics away from World of Warcraft's in-game shop, but perhaps also extending the amount of Trader's Tender that players can earn each month. This would mean that players don't have to fear spending their precious Tender in case they can't afford something else down the line, which is the major motivation for them to buy the items with real cash. Either that, or Blizzard needs to let players know what to expect from the Trading Post a few months in advance so that they can plan ahead and avoid missing out.
Regardless of which solution is best, Tyrael’s Charger is about to become a lot more common in World of Warcraft, a gift that hopefully revs up the hype for the release of Diablo 4. The Trading Post may be the center of much controversy in the coming months, but at least for now it still remains an overall positive addition to the game.
