World of Warcraft just added a new feature to the game that has teased when the upcoming Blue Dragonflight questline will arrive. Though players have never seen this particular feature before now, World of Warcraft may use it later on to tease future storylines.

According to multiple interviews and blog posts, World of Warcraft was adding a new side story in Patch 10.1, Embers of Neltharion, relating to the Blue Dragonflight. However, release day for Patch 10.1 came and went with no sign of the new questline–not even alongside the release of the Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible raid.

Then suddenly, players noticed a new feature in World of Warcraft that seemed to reveal when this new questline was going to arrive. In the Azure Archives located in the Azure Span in Dragonflight, the Blue Dragon Aspect Kalecgos got a timer above his head, counting down the days until the Blue Dragons arrive. The date coincides with the weekly reset on Tuesday, May 23, so players can safely expect this new side story to become available then.

The timer itself is not entirely new to World of Warcraft. Dragonflight added similar timers to boat and zeppelin dockmasters, allowing players to better plan how long until overworld transportation arrives. That said, this is the first time WoW has used this timer to tease a future storyline–and it did so without any mention in patch notes or otherwise.

It was strange for WoW to not officially announce this upcoming questline’s arrival, but the buzz around players discovering the timer served to generate hype for it all the same. It remains to be seen if World of Warcraft will use this new timer to announce other additions to the story. Blizzard previously confirmed another chapter of the Tyr storyline in Dragonflight would be coming as well, so players will have to keep an eye on the NPCs who were involved in this World of Warcraft questline to see if they receive a similar timer somewhere in the future.

Either way, many players are excited about this new Blue Dragonflight questline. While they were thrilled to see Senegos, Stellagosa, and Emmigosa in Dragonflight, many noticed other major Blue Dragon characters from World of Warcraft history like Azuregos, Tyrigosa, and Haleh were absent. This came as a surprise, given their popularity and connections to Malygos or Kalecgos. Players won’t have to wait long to see if these characters play a role in the new World of Warcraft story.

World of Warcraft is available now for PC.
