Apple TV Plus announced a new spinoff for the hit comedy series Mythic Quest. The new series, titled Mere Mortals, will be an eight-episode companion to Mythic Quest, exploring the universe and characters of the original show.

Created by Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Megan Ganz, Mythic Quest is a workplace comedy series set in and around a fictional video game studio. The series is currently in its third season and has already been renewed for a fourth season at Apple TV Plus.

Per Apple TV Plus' press release, Mere Mortals will explore the lives of employees, players, and fans impacted by the fictional Mythic Quest game. The new extension series is inspired by the popular departure episodes of Mythic Quest, including last year's critically acclaimed episode "Backstory!" and season one's Emmy-nominated "A Dark Quiet Death." According to Apple TV Plus, this Friday's upcoming episode will also be a standalone episode in the same vein. Mere Mortals will be written by Mythic Quest star Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. Ganz, McElhenney, David Hornsby, Day, Nick Frenkel, Michael Rotenberg, Jason Altman, and Margaret Boykin will serve as executive producers.

The cast of Mythic Quest

Mythic Quest stars McElhenney as Ian Grimm, the egotistic creative director of the titular video game Mythic Quest. The series also stars Burch as Rachel, a former video game tester for Mythic Quest, Charlotte Nicdao as Poppy Li, the lead engineer and co-creative director of Mythic Quest, Hornsby as David Brittlesbee, the executive producer of Mythic Quest, Jessie Ennis as Jo, David's tyrannical assistant, Imani Hakim as Dana, a game tester, and Community star Danny Pudi as Brad Bakshi, the former head of monetization for Mythic Quest. White Lotus actor F. Murray Abraham also previously starred as head writer CW Longbottom. Abraham departed from the series after season 2 for undisclosed reasons.

A spinoff companion series for Mythic Quest should come as no surprise, as the series is one of Apple TV's most popular shows. The previous "departure episodes" have also been hailed as some of Mythic Quest's best episodes, so it makes sense that the streamer would want to pursue more. Apple TV Plus has been steadily growing its selection of comedy series, including the massively popular award-winning series Ted Lasso, which is set to premiere its third season sometime in 2023.

Mythic Quest season 3 releases new episodes on Friday exclusively on Apple TV Plus.
