Armored Core 6 has been the subject of a few rumors in recent weeks, and the latest one points to a specific release date of August 25. Fans of the series were elated when Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was revealed at The Game Awards in December 2022 that also crowned FromSoftware's Elden Ring as Game of the Year. The reveal trailer for Armored Core 6 only gave a vague 2023 release window, and the anticipation has steadily built up as the year approaches the halfway mark.

Shortly after it was revealed, FromSoftware had to shut down some rumors that Armored Core 6 was going to be a Soulslike. While the series has not had a mainline entry since Armored Core 5 released to a mixed reception in 2012, the series predates the Souls series by over 10 years with its roots as a third-person mech shooter well-established since the days of Sony's original PlayStation.

According to Insider Gaming's sources, Armored Core 6 will be released on August 25, 2023. This comes following the revelation that Armored Core 6 has an install version of 2.1.0.1 on Xbox, which seems to indicate that the game is very close to release since this number eclipses the 1.0 that is usually considered the first playable version of a game.

The August 25 release would defy a previous report that placed the Armored Core 6 release date towards the end of September. With all that said, there has been no official announcement in this regard; any and all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. Some have speculated that Armored Core 6 will finally get a release date reveal at the Summer Games Fest in June, but this is at best an educated guess based on the game being revealed at The Game Awards since both of these events are organized by Geoff Keighley and enjoy massive worldwide viewership.

Meanwhile, FromSoftware also appears to be working on an unannounced game that isn't Armored Core-related. While some fans might hope for Dark Souls 4, Bloodborne 2, or a return of the King's Field franchise, it must be pointed out that FromSoftware has at least a dozen other historical franchises that it could revisit. FromSoftware could also be working on something entirely new. For now, fans can only await the official announcement of the release date for Armored Core 6 and look forward to some mech battling action some time later this year.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon launches in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
