One The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player recently took to social media to share an impressive vehicle inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender. Their creation is just the latest in a long list of marvelous machinery that Tears of the Kingdom players have been sharing since the game's May 12 debut.
Though fairly similar to its predecessor, Tears of the Kingdom ups the ante on nearly every franchise feature, including Link's magical powers. Among its follow-ups on Breath of the Wild's runes is Ultrahand, an ability that lets players move and combine a multitude of objects in order to build various structures and vehicles.
One such machine was recently made by Reddit user Alphey4406, who took inspiration from Avatar: The Last Airbender in order to construct something closely resembling a Sand-Sailer in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. They subsequently shared a brief gameplay clip of their creation that shows Link braving the dunes of the Gerudo desert in the style of Avatar's sandbenders, all thanks to their custom-made vehicle. Naturally, the mast and sail found on the sled-like machine are purely cosmetic and there merely to complete the look of Si Wong tribes' Sand-Sailers.
As is the case with most Tears of the Kingdom vehicles that can be made from scratch, this Sand-Sailer-inspired machine relies on Zonai Energy Cells, meaning that its range and overall usefulness are directly proportional to the size of Link's battery reserves. Due to that dependency, Tears of the Kingdom players aren't advised to attempt this feat of engineering themselves until at least mid-game.
Fan-powered sleds are far from the only vehicle category that can be put together using Tears of the Kingdom's Ultrahand ability. On the contrary, Link can construct over half a dozen different machine types in the new Zelda game, including carriages, cars, boats, balloons, airplanes, and even things like skateboards and hovercrafts. Zonai Energy Cells serve as a vehicle equivalent of a stamina meter by facilitating traversal without making it too easy to rush past enemies.
Since taking to the skies is (still) the most effortless way to move across Hyrule, Tears of the Kingdom imposes an additional limit on aircraft by making common components like Zonai Wings despawn after 60 seconds of use. However, some of the players found that timer to be too limiting, having recently started calling for Nintendo to at the very least add a way of circumventing that mechanic come endgame.
