The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom gives Link several new abilities that can be used to solve puzzles, traverse the environment, create contraptions, and much more. These main powers are called Ascend, Fuse, Ultrahand, and Recall, and they have all been shown in trailers and gameplay presentations for the game, so some players might be wondering just how and when they can unlock these on their own. Luckily, gathering these four abilities is rather simple and can be done in the early hours of Tears of the Kingdom.
Once Link ends up on the Great Sky Island, players must make their way to the Temple of Time; however, the front door will be locked until three tutorial puzzle shrines are completed. This is part of the main story quest called The Closed Door and the only method to gather the aforementioned abilities.
How to Unlock Ultrahand in Tears of the Kingdom
The first ability players will have to unlock is called Ultrahand, which can be used to pick up objects and attach them to other things. By heading to the Ukouh Shrine, just a little west of the Temple of Time, players will unlock the Ultrahand skill as soon as they step inside. Players can see its location on the map image below:
How to Unlock Fuse in Tears of the Kingdom
After acquiring Ultrahand, Tears of the Kingdom players can head to the southwestern section of the Great Sky Island to find the In-Isa Shrine. Making a raft is necessary to get to the shrine, and players can see its actual location on the map below. Once they enter the shrine, they will automatically learn the Fuse ability. This allows gamers to attach something to an equipped weapon or shield to enhance it.
How to Unlock Ascend in Tears of the Kingdom
The next shrine on the list is the Gutanbac Shrine, located on the east side of the Great Sky Island. Upon entering the Zelda shrine, players will get yet another useful ability: Ascend. The actual location of the Gutanbac Shrine is circled in red in the image below:
How to Unlock Recall in Tears of the Kingdom
Once players have completed the three shrines, they can find their way back to the Temple of Time, open the front door, and then learn the Recall ability from an echo version of Princess Zelda.
This lets Link rewind objects, which can be used in the temple to reverse the movement of the cogs so players can climb on them to progress. There will be many uses for these skills as players make their way through Hyrule to find Zelda and hopefully save the land from the Gloom.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
