Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon inches closer to its December 2023 release date. As a result, further announcements arrive, divulging details on the Netflix production before the official marketing campaign begins.

Similar to Army of the Dead and its spinoff titles, Army of Thieves and the upcoming Planet of the Dead and Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, Rebel Moon marks the beginning of another Snyder franchise on Netflix. Rebel Moon is described as a samurai drama inspired by Star Wars. Further details emerged after Netflix released a promotional video that revealed what films are coming out in 2023, which included a few seconds of footage of the Stone Quarry production. While there is no official teaser yet, that does not mean there isn't still much to be excited about for fans and audiences alike.

It was previously stated that Rebel Moon would be split into two movies. Now, Netflix Brazil reports that Part 1 will be titled “The child [girl] of fire.” This subtitle of Part 1 is likely referring to Kora, Sofia Boutella's character, who was seen in some behind-the-scene movie stills that have been released. Even more exciting is Dolby Cinema reporting that Rebel Moon Part 1: The Child of Fire will be released theatrically in conjunction with the film’s release on Netflix. It is still to be determined if the theatrical release will be worldwide and if the Netflix version of Rebel Moon will be the same. However, director Zack Snyder is known for his rated R directors cuts of Watchmen, Batman v Superman, and Zack Snyder's Justice League. This begs the question of if the theatrical release of Rebel Moon will be PG-13, whereas a rated R director’s cut of Rebel Moon would be available to stream on Netflix.

This information comes as insider MyTimeToShineHello reports that multiple spinoff projects are already in development for Rebel Moon. Among these spinoff projects is a Rebel Moon video game adaptation described as having a “ridiculous scale.” In video game terms, this presumably means that fans are looking at a triple-A release, which would mark a first for Netflix.

Netflix clearly trusts Snyder, as the director seems to have creative freedom to carry out his artistic vision, unlike his time with Warner Bros., who called the Snyder cut a mistake. Zack Snyder's Justice League was critically praised, and while Warner Bros. never released the numbers, Zack Snyder's Justice League remains the only film to have crashed HBO Max's servers upon its release. Only time will tell if Rebel Moon will do the same for Netflix; the combination of Star Wars and Samurai-inspired elements is certainly enough to have fans on the edge of their seats with the first official trailer around the corner.

Rebel Moon is scheduled to be released theatrically and on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
