The creators behind God of War, Santa Monica Studio, recently posted a number of job listings seeking out new talent to help with the development of their new unannounced title. Santa Monica Studio, a first-party developer owned by Sony, is known for one of the best single-player games on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, God of War Ragnarok.

God of War, an action-adventure series based on Greek and Norse mythology, is one of PlayStation’s flagship franchises that continues to receive praise since its first release on the PlayStation 2 and every generation beyond, but things may be changing for the company. Santa Monica Studio recently began hiring for what could be God of War Ragnarok’s sequel, and the company is now seeking new talent for an upcoming and unannounced title.

Santa Monica Studio is seeking a number of experienced new talent for the development of a new unannounced title. The developer is building a team with skills and expertise in multiple areas including but not limited to an engineering manager, a senior producer, a senior technical artist, and a senior environment concept artist. The job listing for the senior environment concept artist details that candidates must have the ability to render "realistic believable fantasy based props, architecture, and natural landscapes" and can block out ideas in "3D as well as 2D."

The job listings strongly suggest that Santa Monica Studio is developing a new game, but it has yet to confirm what the unannounced title could be. It may be a new entry for the God of War series that will fill the hole regarding unanswered questions about Kratos' son Atreus, a revisit to one of its old series such as its racing game Kinetica, or the developer may forge a new path by developing a new IP.

After the PlayStation Showcase in May, it seems that the company and its developers want to progress with the times and try something new with their creative minds and technology. Santa Monica Studio may consider expanding beyond God of War as well. The company has been praised for its immersive storytelling, complex characters, and engaging combat. Its recent game God of War Ragnarok also won plenty of awards including six awards at The Game Awards 2022. Although the developers continue to receive praise for the God of War series, it would be beneficial for them to diversify their portfolio and apply their talents elsewhere to see where a new adventure would lead them.
