A new leak from Genshin Impact's Version 4.0 update is teasing elements of the first part of the story for the RPG's newest region. While HoYoverse has mostly held information about the region of Fontaine close to its chest, both in-game lore and leaks have already begun to hint at the game's next major region. Fontaine will reportedly feature lakes and rivers throughout the region, given its connection with the Hydro Archon, and heavy technological elements as one of the most advanced regions in Teyvat. Now, new leaks are giving the first hints at Fontaine's story.

While not much is known about the story of Fontaine, HoYoverse has previously featured subtle hints at the nature of Genshin Impact's next region. Fontaine is said to bear heavy links to "justice" as the region's core thematic, referenced both in the game's early "Travail" story trailer and through in-game dialogue. The impact of the region's advanced technology can already be seen in multiple instances within the RPG, with the in-game Kamera originating in Fontaine. Now, Fontaine's story looks to have major political elements based on recent leaks.

A new leak shared by prominent Genshin Impact leaker Vississ has teased some of the key themes associated with the story for Version 4.0. The leak suggests a political and social imbalance will play a major role in Fontaine's story, with "contradictions between upper and lower classes" and a "significant wealth gap" as focuses. The region will also reportedly look to tackle "environmental pollution" as a primary subject of its story. The new leaks have already seen some fans drawing comparisons between Fontaine's reported story and another recent release from HoYoverse, Honkai: Star Rail's Belobog.

Fontaine's story following the division between the region's elites and lower class would likely look to hit many of the same beats as the game's most recent region. Division is a major subject of the Sumeru region's story, particularly when looking at the divide between the desert-dwelling Eremites and the academics of Sumeru City. Even the aspect of pollution was touched upon during Sumeru with the rampant spread of the "Withering Zones" throughout the rainforest. Fontaine's Version 4.0 update is expected to debut following the conclusion of Version 3.8 in mid-August.

With Version 4.0 only two updates away, plenty more details about the upcoming Fontaine region have leaked alongside the game's story. Genshin Impact has already seen several of its planned Fontaine characters' models leaked, including some gameplay details for launch characters like Lyney and Lynette. Information about the player's arrival in the region has also surfaced, suggesting players will enter Fontaine from Sumeru rather than a rumored new Liyue area. Excitement is building for the release of Genshin Impact's newest region with just a few months left until its release.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
