A recent leak from Genshin Impact has revealed a new unique NPC expected to appear in the upcoming Version 3.8 as part of its main event. While the massively popular RPG from HoYoverse boasts a sizable cast of playable characters for players to acquire, the game's updates have featured plenty of popular Genshin Impact NPCs as well. Characters from Mondstadt like The Cat's Tail owner Margaret have often featured in events, while some like Sumeru's Dunyarzad play major roles in the story. Now, leaks are teasing a new event-exclusive NPC for Version 3.8.

Genshin Impact's Version 3.8, expected to release in early July, has already seen plenty of leaks about the plethora of content coming to the final Sumeru version. The update is expected to bring with it a new limited-time event region, referred to as "Penumbra," with a story starring characters like Klee and Eula. Version 3.8 will reportedly also welcome the game's newest skins, with Klee and Kaeya receiving new looks during the patch. 3.8's main event is rumored to revolve around the Oceanid enemies, and a new NPC may further that connection.

A recent leak from trusted Genshin Impact leaker Merlin Impact has revealed a new NPC set to arrive with the Version 3.8 update, providing the name "Idyia" for the character. The character's design boasts a heavily blue color scheme with light blue hair, blue eyes, and blue tones throughout her outfit. Not much is known about the role Idyia will play, but many fans have already speculated that she may be the humanoid form of one of the game's Oceanids. Idyia will debut with the release of Version 3.8, currently expected to launch on July 5. The leak can be seen on Twitter.

Idyia's speculated connection to the Oceanids would give the Penumbra region another tie to the game's next major region. Penumbra has been heavily suggested to act as a lead-in to the upcoming region of Fontaine, featuring characters and design elements based on the region. In-game lore has also previously revealed Fontaine was the original homeland of the game's Oceanid enemies, one of which currently resides in Liyue. Fontaine's Version 4.0 update is believed to be released directly following the conclusion of Version 3.8.

With Fontaine reportedly only a few months away, leaks have already started to reveal plenty of content from the game's next region. HoYoverse's recent Special Program for Genshin Impact's Version 3.7 update gave the first official teaser for Fontaine, showing off the Traveler among the region's aquatic life. The new region has also seen several of its initial characters from the lineup leaked, along with Charlotte serving as the first Fontaine character to appear in-game. HoYoverse looks to be ramping up the excitement for Fontaine throughout the coming weeks.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
