The world of Hogwarts Legacy is nowhere near as large as some of the ones found in other modern open-world games. It's far from small though, as players will eventually discover once they're given the freedom to fully explore it. One of the many places that players can visit is a small town called Marunweem, which is in the southeastern part of the world map. There, they'll find a woman named Marianne Moffett and gain access to the "Birds of a Feather" side quest.

"Birds of a Feather" becomes available after players have uncovered the book from the restricted section of the library during the third act of Hogwarts Legacy's main story. They won't actually be able to complete it until much later on though, as doing so will require the Nab Sack item, which is needed for catching beasts. Once they have it, players will need to head to a beast den out on the west coast in order to complete the quest.

Updated May 6, 2023, by Tom Bowen: Hogwarts Legacy players will get to meet a lot of interesting new characters as they explore the titular castle's grounds and the areas surrounding it, many of whom will hand out unique side quests. Birds of a Feather is one such quest and is handed out by a woman named Marianne Moffett during the second half of the game. She'll ask players to help rescue Gwyneira, a Diricawl who can be found in a nearby beast den.

How to Complete the Birds of a Feather Side Quest in Hogwarts Legacy

After speaking with Marianne and agreeing to help rescue Gwyneira from the poachers, a quest marker will be set for the Diricawl den. For Gwyneira to show up, players will need to visit this den during nighttime hours, so if it's daytime, they may need to advance time by opening up the map screen and then pressing the right analog stick in. Once it gets dark, Gwyneira should be easy to spot, as her feathers are bright white. What's more, she'll be tagged as "Gwyneira the Diricawl" when players lock onto her as opposed to just "Diricawl" like the other birds in the den.

To catch Gwyneira, players will need to lock onto her and then use the Nab Sack item just as they would with any other beast. However, unlike the beasts that players practiced catching with Deek the House Elf during the Nab Sack tutorial quest, there will be four stages to catching Gwyneira rather than just three. She'll run around a lot while all this is going on, but providing players are able to keep track of her, it shouldn't take too long to get the beast into the sack.

Should You Give Gwyneira to Marianne Moffett?

Once players have caught Gwyneira, they should fast travel to the Floo Flames location in Marunweem and speak with Marianne. She'll ask them to hand Gwyneira over as it was her idea to "rescue" the bird from the poachers, at which point, players will be given three options to choose from. Giving Gwyneira to Marianne will lead to players getting 300 Galleons, while choosing the "It'll cost you." option will reward them with 500 Galleons instead.

The final option allows players to keep Gwyneira and take her back to the Room of Requirement. Players won't get any money if they do this, though this does lead to Marianne showing her true colors and cursing players out, which can be quite amusing to witness. Whichever option players choose, they'll also receive 180 XP and the Debonair Socialite Ensemble, a cosmetic item that can be used to customize the appearance of certain pieces of Gear.

How to Get to Poidseer Coast

Poidsear Coast in Hogwarts Legacy

In order to reach Marunweem and begin Hogwarts Legacy's Birds of a Feather side quest, players will first need to get to Poidseer Coast, a special area of the map that cannot be reached by broomstick. Instead, players will need to pass through a Goblin-infested cave system, where many dangerous enemies can be found, as well as one or two Notorious Foes. Thankfully, the Disillusionment charm can make passing through the caves relatively straightforward, providing, that is, that players make sure to keep their distance and stick to the shadows.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. A Switch version is currently in development.
