Some classes in Hogwarts Legacy can only be attended by progressing through the main story, and even then it's possible that the player might not realize they are available. The History of Magic Class side quest is no exception, as it becomes available quite late in the story and can only be started by traveling to a classroom the player may not have visited before.

Upon doing so, they will then be able to attend Professor Binns' class on the History of Magic by fast-traveling to the Bell Tower Courtyard in The Bell Tower Wing, walking up the stairs on the left, opening the door ahead, and continuing up the next set of stairs into the classroom. Immediately after entering the classroom, the player will see a prompt to begin the quest.

Staying awake in Hogwarts Legacy

Upon initiating the History of Magic Class quest, the player will be treated to a brief cutscene in which Professor Binns discusses the history of the wizarding world. During this scene, a prompt will appear, encouraging the player to keep their character awake while Binns is speaking. Failing to do so won't affect how the side quest plays out, so the player can feel free to let their character doze off if they wish.

Once the scene ends, the player will need to follow Binns out of the classroom into the area with the Bell Tower Courtyard Floo Flame. After speaking with Binns, they will then need to locate two different Field Guide Pages nearby.

Once the conversation with Binns has ended, the player can head down the stairs, turn right, and proceed into the dead end with the glass cabinet. To find the Field Guide Page for Grimbald Weft, they should cast Revelio while standing next to the cabinet. After collecting the Field Guide Page, Binns will ask the protagonist to find the Field Guide Page for Sir Affpuddle.

Once the conversation with Binns concludes, the player should travel up the stairs to the north and turn right, where they will be faced with a row of four suits of armor. Casting Revelio while standing next to the armor suit on the left will reveal the Field Guide Page for Sir Affpuddle. After it has been collected, the player should backtrack and speak to Binns near the Floo Flame.

Binns will then praise the protagonist for finding both Field Guide Pages before explaining more about Sir Affpuddle. Once he finishes talking, the History of Magic Class side quest will end.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on April 4, and a Switch version will release on July 25.
