Despite not featuring any of the characters from the Harry Potter books and movies, Hogwarts Legacy still manages to feel right at home in the wizarding world. There are plenty of hidden Easter eggs for fans of the franchise, including a nice little homage to the iconic movie theme.

"Solved by the Bell" is one of the many side quests in Hogwarts Legacy and sees players following a special musical map. Before players can get started though, they'll first need to complete the Tomes and Tribulations main story quest, as well as the two assignments handed out by Madame Kogawa.

Updated May 5, 2023, by Tom Bowen: Hogwarts Legacy's Solved by the Bell quest is one of the game's very best, as it involves multiple steps and has its own unique mechanics. However, this added complexity does mean that completing Solved by the Bell can be a little tricky, particularly for those who stumble upon the quest's secondary location before finding the musical map. Likewise, finding the musical map is only half the battle, with some players experiencing difficulty when it comes to figuring out where and how to use it.

Where to Find the Musical Map in Hogwarts Legacy

To begin the "Solved by the Bell" side quest, players will first need to uncover the Musical Map, which can be found hidden in a place called Henrietta's Hideaway in the Manor Cape area in the southwestern portion of the world map. Players will need to visit this hidden location as part of the "Rescuing Rococo" side quest, so should consider grabbing the map while tackling that. They'll need to pass right by Bainburgh on their way to Manor Cape anyway, so it's well worth the short detour.

Once they've arrived at Manor Cape and cleared out the dark wizards that are hanging around the area, players will be able to access Henrietta's Hideaway via the large wooden doors in the area beneath the Merlin Trial. To get through the first room, they should use Accio or Wingardium Leviosa to move the cube onto the circle with the icicle on it and then use the Glacius spell so that the cube starts to glow. Next, they should stand on the circle with the picture of the flame on it and cast Incendio.

After taking out some enemies in the next room, Hogwarts Legacy players should continue onward and follow the path around to the right. There's an enchanted section of flooring here that prevents players from progressing, but they'll be able to get around this simply by casting Arresto Momentum on it. This will allow them to access a large chamber, where, after defeating all of the enemies, they'll be able to find a secret passageway in the wall on the right (it opens when players stand in front of it), inside of which they'll find the Musical Map.

When it comes to using the Musical Map, players should make their way over to Clagmar Castle, which is to the east of Manor Cape. Once there, they'll need to clear out all of the enemies and then look for a tower with nine bells. To complete the side quest, they'll simply need to hit these bells with a regular spell in the following order:

  1. The bell on the bottom right
  2. The third bell down on the left
  3. The second bell down on the left
  4. The second bell down on the right
  5. The third bell down on the left
  6. The top bell on the left
  7. The top bell on the right
  8. The second bell down on the right

After players have hit the bells in the correct order, they'll hear a familiar melody and a special treasure chest will spawn to their left. Inside, they'll find the Treasure-Seeker's Longcoat: a cosmetic item that can be used to alter the appearance of certain pieces of Gear. They'll also get 400 Galleons, as well as the usual 180 XP.

Are there Any Other Quests Like Solved by the Bell in Hogwarts Legacy?

Sadly, most of the side quests in Hogwarts Legacy are a lot more generic than Solved by the Bell and none make use of the music note mechanic. However, that's not to say that there aren't other unique side quests in the game, with the Minding Your Own Business quest being very different than anything else that the game has to offer. Unfortunately, however, Minding Your Own Business is a PlayStation-exclusive side quest, meaning that Xbox and PC players won't get a chance to enjoy it.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. A Switch version is currently in development.
