Hogwarts Legacy places its players in the shoes of a young fifth-year student during their time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While most of the main story requires the student to attend their classes, there is also a great deal of side content to experience if the player wishes.
One such side quest requires the player to assist Poppy Sweeting on her animal-rescuing ventures. While completing these relationship quests, Poppy will reveal more about herself, while also allowing the protagonist to aid her in rescuing endangered creatures. These Hogwarts Legacy quests are incredibly wholesome to experience, but the Moonstone puzzle in the A Bird in the Hand quest will likely leave players scratching their heads.
How To Begin A Bird In The Hand
In order to begin Poppy Sweeting's questline in Hogwarts Legacy, players must first complete Professor Rackham's Trial. Then, they will be given the chance to attend Professor Howin's class on magical creatures in order to officially meet Poppy. After completing this main quest, players can expect to receive regular owls from Poppy, in which she will ask the protagonist to assist her in rescuing a variety of different magical beasts.
A Bird in the Hand is the eighth Poppy-related relationship quest players can embark on in Hogwarts Legacy, and as such, it's arguably the most challenging in her questline. In order to complete it, Poppy and the protagonist must make their way inside some ruins, fight off a hoard of poachers, and locate the Snidgets, bird-like creatures that were once thought to be extinct.
Solving The Light And Darkness Puzzle
Before the young students can infiltrate these ruins, however, they must first solve a rather challenging puzzle to open the way forward. This puzzle requires the protagonist to place the Moonstone they found earlier in the stone at the center of the ring before they turn their attention to the two nearby pillars.
Aside from Poppy's remarks about light and darkness, the game doesn't really explain what needs to be done, so players are likely to struggle with solving this puzzle. That said, once they know what needs to be done, the puzzle seems pretty easy.
Figure Out How to Enter the Ruins
In order to unlock the way forward, players must equip the Accio spell to their spell diamond and use it to relocate the pillars around the Moonstone. These pillars must be placed on particular slots in order for the door to open, and thankfully, the glowing symbols on the door reveal which ones they align to.
The door will open once the outer pillar is placed on the southernmost slot and the inner pillar is placed on the slot to the west. While placing the inner pillar, it is likely the protagonist will be spotted by the spiders wandering the area, so they should be ready for a fight. Thankfully, the spiders aren't overly difficult to defeat, especially if the player enjoys using Confringo and Incendio.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One versions will release on April 4 and a Switch version will release on July 25.
