In the magical new world of Hogwarts Legacy, players will finally have the ability to play as the type of witch or wizard that they have always wanted to be. Players will choose a house, attend classes, brew potions, and explore the many mysteries that lie beyond the grounds of Hogwarts proper. However, in order to tackle the puzzles and threats that lie before players, players will have to learn some proper spells. These spells have many different purposes, but they are all learned in similar ways to each other. In this guide, players will learn what they must do to add more spells to their magical arsenal.
Spells in Hogwarts Legacy
In Hogwarts Legacy, spells are the most important aspect of the game. Through these magics, players will have access to all the tools they require to overcome the game's challenges. From combat-focused spells like Expelliarmus and Incendio to utility spells like the Disillusionment Charm and Revelio and even the Three Unforgivable Curses, players will have great freedom of choice about how they wish to approach the various quests in the game.
But, players will not begin the game with access to a large arsenal of spells. In fact, they will begin with only a few utility spells and their basic attack spell. Luckily, players will have the ability to expand on this as the game progresses through their diligence in studying.
Learning New Spells
Learning new spells is quite simple in Hogwarts Legacy, though that does not always make it easy. Players will be learning their new spells from mostly the same source: the professors who teach classes at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Given that players are beginning their new term at the magic school as fifth-year students, they have to rely on their professors to teach them new spells during the course of attending classes as the game progresses and they level up. As a part of the same story, players are far behind their fellow students. As such, professors will also teach players new spells by giving special assignments alongside their regular classes. After playing a little mini-game, players will acquire the spell for themselves.
Main Story Spells
Some of the spells available for players to learn will be taught as a part of the main story of the game. Players will come across obstacles in the world that they cannot pass as a part of the story, so their new objective will be to attend certain classes until they learn the necessary spell to progress. This is the simplest way to learn new spells, as players will acquire them through regular gameplay. These main story spells are not the only spells to be learned in the game, however, as players will be given side quests called assignments to learn more.
Assignments
The assignments given to players range from finding pages hidden around the world to performing certain feats in combat with other wizards. These are presented as quests in the game, so players will need to occasionally check their quest log to see which assignments they have been given and what needs to be accomplished to complete the quest.
Once these assignments have been completed, players will need to return to whichever professor assigned the quest by fast traveling back to the professor's classroom. Once players have returned to their classroom and spoken to the professor, the professor will teach the associated spell.
