For the most part, players can get through the entirety of Hogwarts Legacy by rushing into danger and taking on waves of enemies head on, but there's another option. The Disillusionment Charm allows the player to sneak about, rendering them almost completely invisible. Using this, players are able to approach certain situations stealthily instead of with wands blazing. For players that prefer this method, it would not be an overstatement to say that the Disillusionment Charm is one of the most important spells in Hogwarts Legacy.
Unlocking the Disillusionment Charm in Hogwarts Legacy is unique because it isn't taught to the player by one of the many professors at Hogwarts. Instead, Hogwarts' resident troublemaker Sebastian Sallow teaches this spell to the player as part of one of the early story quests. Players prioritizing this spell will want to focus on the main story early on in their time with the game.
Start Secrets of the Restricted Section Quest
The Disillusionment Charm is taught to the player as part of the quest "Secrets of the Restricted Section." Players that haven't yet unlocked this quest simply need to keep playing the main story, as this happens after the player's visit to Hogsmeade and discussion with Professor Fig about the Restricted Section of the Library. Start this quest by talking to Sebastian, who will teach it to the player immediately so they can sneak past the prefects, the librarian, and the many ghosts stalking the Restricted Section of the Library.
Learning the Disillusionment Charm
Players learn the Disillusionment Charm in the same way they learn every other spell, by completing the spell learning minigame. Just follow the button prompts and keep the cursor following the path and players should learn the Disillusionment Charm with ease. Once it's unlocked, set it to any slot on the Spell Set and it will be available to the player for the rest of the game.
How to Use the Disillusionment Charm
The Disillusionment Charm has two major uses, both of which involve remaining unseen. It can be used to sneak up on or around enemies and school officials, allowing the player to stay undetected when accessing restricted areas of the school or areas controlled by the enemy. This is also a great way to get close to enemies and cast Petrificus Totalus to take them out quietly. Finally, the Disillusionment Charm is also used to open chests with eyes in Hogwarts Legacy, as they will lock shut if the player approaches them without the Disillusionment Charm active. This is a great way to get lots of money easily.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4; the Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
