Potions are important in Hogwarts Legacy, especially the Wiggenweld Potion. These concoctions grant players multiple effects and enhancements that benefit them during combat or even gameplay in general. For example, Edurus Potion gives players a defense buff alongside sturdiness against interruptions, while the Potion that grants Invisibility can conceal its wearer.
At certain points during combat in Hogwarts Legacy, drinking a specific Potion can be more important than casting a spell. Players can heal when they’re in critical condition or even use an offensive Potion like Thunderbrew.
How To Use Potions In Hogwarts Legacy
To use Potions in Hogwarts Legacy, players must open the Tool Wheel by holding Tab on PC, L1 on PlayStation, or LB on Xbox and equip the desired Potion. Once equipped, press the same button to use the Potion. Only the Wiggenweld Potion (the healing Potion) is not included in the Tool Wheel and has different mechanics. Players can use Healing Potion in Hogwarts Legacy without equipping it by pressing G on PC, and the Down button on PlayStation and Xbox.
The Tool Wheel also contains plants that players can use the same way, such as Venomous Tentacula and Mandrake.
How To Unlock Potions In Hogwarts Legacy
Upon starting Hogwarts Legacy, players won’t be able to brew or use Potions. Instead, the student will be stuck in a series of main and side quests that introduce them to the world of Hogwarts Legacy. This changes once Potions Class main quests start to teach players about that mechanic. It doesn't take long to trigger that quest though, if players are strictly doing main quests, it should take around 20 to 30 minutes to get that quest.
Professor Sharp will teach the class about the importance of Potions, their ingredients, and how to brew them. The moment players brew their first Potion, it will automatically join the Tools Wheel. Players then can immediately tap the Tools Wheel to pick that Potion. After that, the student can buy and brew Potions freely without any restriction.
All Potions in Hogwarts Legacy
Having Plants and Potions inside the Tool Wheel can be effective in many areas, especially during combat. The number of Tools and Potions may not be high in Hogwarts Legacy, but each one of them adds value somewhere during the gameplay. Here are all the currently available Potions:
Potions | Effect |
---|---|
Wiggenweld Potion | Aids in healing and restores a bit of the drinker’s health. |
Focus Potion | Reduces the drinker’s spell cooldown. |
Maxima Potion | Increases the drinker’s spell damage for a limited amount of time. |
Edurus Potion | Enhances drinker’s defense by covering them with durable rocky skin. |
Invisibility | The drinker turns invisible, causing enemies to lose sight of them. |
Create a storm around the drinker which will stun and damage nearby enemies. |
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
