Mandrakes are one of many handy plants that players can find, buy, or grow in Hogwarts Legacy that's relatively straightforward to get hold of. Mandrakes are essential to get a hold of, as players can use them to help them fight enemies and progress the main story quests.

Where To Get Mandrakes

To get mandrakes, players can buy mandrake seeds or fully grown mandrake plants to use straight away from Madam Green in the Dogweed and Deathcap store in Hogsmeade. Mandrake plants cost 500 Gold Galleons each, or players can buy mandrake seeds for 800 Gold Galleons. Buying mandrake seeds enables players to plant and grow mandrake plants in any sized pot, including the small pot players first get in Herbology. This is handy until players get a potting table with large pots, and it takes 10 minutes to grow one batch of mandrake in a small pot once planted.

To get more mandrakes, players can optionally buy fertilizer from vendors like Dogweed and Deathcamp or The Magic Neep for 300 Gold Galleons to increase the yield of plants. When players unlock the Room of Requirement, they can also grow mandrake in large quantities using equipment like tables containing 5 small pots, enabling players to grow 5 mandrake plants at a time. Players can find and uproot mandrake in northern areas of the Forbidden Forest.

In Hogwarts Legacy, the mandrake is used as a weapon. Although the cry of a mandrake plant can be fatal, players can use the mandrake's scream to stun and damage enemies during combat within a limited radius. Players simply throw mandrake plants at enemies like Ashwinders to unleash their wrath. To use mandrake in battle, players only need to hold the left shoulder button LB if using an Xbox controller to access the equipment wheel and select mandrake using the right stick. Press LB in combat to release the mandrake root's scream and harm multiple enemies.

When following the main story quests, sometimes obtaining and using plants like mandrakes are necessary for learning new spells. For instance, for Professor Garlick's Assignment 1, acquiring and using mandrake plants is a prerequisite for getting the Wingardium Leviosa spell as a reward.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
