In Hogwarts Legacy players are able to brew tons of useful potions, each providing different benefits in combat or in exploring the game world. This means gathering ingredients, which themselves can be found all over the game world and can sometimes be especially tricky to track down.

One ingredient in Hogwarts Legacy that can be especially tricky to track down early in the game, but which becomes plentiful later on, is "Stench of the Dead." This ingredient is used in the recipe for Thunderbrew, a powerful potion that causes a storm cloud to form around the player and deal damage to everything around them, so here's how to track down Stench of the Dead.

Luckily, Stench of the Dead is a common drop from a certain enemy type, and can also be purchased from some shops. Inferi, corpses animated with dark magic to serve as guards, are the main source of this ingredient and are often found roaming tombs, graveyards, and some ruins. Shops specializing in potions, like J. Pippin's Potions, also usually sell Stench of the Dead and provide a somewhat less life-threatening method of acquiring the stuff.

Where to Get Stench of the Dead

Players looking to get their hands dirty will need to track down some Inferi and take them out, so bring fire magic to make them vulnerable to damage. Inferius Lairs are the most reliable locations of Inferi, and the image above shows the location of a fairly easy to find lair a bit south of Keenbridge.

Players will also find Inferi guarding some of the many Treasure Vaults scattered around the game world, and they have a tendency to show up in a lot of the game's main and side quests, so progressing the story is also a very easy way of finding some Inferi and acquiring the Stench of the Dead.

When fighting Inferi, remember to hit them with Incendio or Confringo first to render them vulnerable to damage. After that, any method of dealing damage will work until they stop burning, and hitting them with descendo as they attempt an overhead smash will knock them flat for a good amount of damage. Later on in the game, the transformation spell becomes a very effective way of dealing with them, assuming players took the transformation mastery perk, since it transfigures enemies into explosive barrels ready for throwing.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and coming soon to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
