Hogwarts Legacy has many exciting spells for players to wield, including casting rare Ancient Magic. In Hogwarts Legacy, there are 20 Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations to discover. However, players must first complete the Secrets of the Restricted Section main quest and possess level 3 Alohomora to access all magic traces.
In many ways, Hogwarts Legacy's Ancient Magic mystery helps the game feel unique, owing to the player character's rare connection to it. However, using Ancient Magic for powerful attacks and spectacular takedowns drains players' Ancient Magic meter. Fortunately, players can increase their meter size by locating and completing Ancient Magic Hotspots to become exceptionally formidable witches or wizards.
Forbidden Forest Ancient Magic Hotspot Locations
There are 2 Ancient Magic Hotspots in the Forbidden Forest as follows:
Ancient Magic Hotspot Forbidden Forest Location 1
The first is located northeast of Jackdaw's Tomb Floo Flame and involves a frog statue puzzle. Head into the eastern ruins to find the first Ancient Magic trace by the archway by the statues. Use the statue 2nd from the right to find the next one upstairs to complete the puzzle.
Ancient Magic Hotspot Forbidden Forest Location 2
The 2nd is inside the wreck southwest of the North Ford Bog Floo Flame. Kill any Venomous Spiderlings and find the first collectible trace on the right. Grab the cryptic note that repeats the words 'follow the spiders,' a possible Hogwarts Legacy Ron Weasley Easter Egg. Climb the nearby boxes to get another trace and crouch under the collapsed building for the final one.
Hogsmeade Valley Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location
There is 1 Ancient Magic Hotspot discoverable in the wrecked building northeast of Hogsmeade. Use the East Hogsmeade Floo Flame to get there and find the Ancient Magic trace in front of the gated doorway. Fly inside to grab the remaining traces at the top and middle of the ruins. Cast Confringo on the pulley mechanism to drop to the final one below.
North Hogwarts Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location
There is 1 Ancient Magic Hotspot in North Hogwarts northeast of the East North Hogwarts Region Floo Flame. Fly to the eastern ruins and investigate the first trace by the large archway.
Blast the nearby vines with Confringo and grab the one on the tomb ahead. Cast Bombarda on the floor panel to descend and get the trace behind the tomb. Use Accio on the drawers to reveal a secret Hogwarts Legacy room containing the final Ancient Magic trace, spawning 2 Inferius.
Hogwarts Valley Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations
There are 6 Ancient Magic Hotspots located in Hogwarts Valley as below:
South West Of Lower Hogsfield
Use the Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame and find the first trace by the castle ruins' well. Defeat the Thornback Matriarch spider and grab the second trace nearby. Use the roof openings to reach the next 2 traces and collect the final trace at the top of the ruins near the beacon.
West of Brocburrow
Head to the castle ruins southwest of the Brocburrow Floo Frame and land on the wooden platform to investigate the first Ancient Magic trace. Cast Depulso on the door mechanism to open the castle gate for the next one.
Cast Depulso on the second mechanism and head outside, casting Incendio on the vines to reach and climb a set of ladders. Cast Incendio at the top to reach the third trace. Use the Accio block or a broom to collect the final trace under the roofed tower.
Northwest of Keenbridge
Head to the castle ruins northwest of Keenbridge, defeating any Ashwinders before locating the first trace by the tower near a Hogwarts Valley Merlin Trial location.
Use Accio on the handle above to pull down a platform and collect the next trace and the third inside the tower behind the vines. Players can get the last one inside the building nearby by casting Incendio on the doorway.
West of Keenbridge
Head south to the ruins west of Keenbridge and find the first trace by the stairs. Head across the opposite field by the Lacewing Flies located by the next trace. The third trace is above the ruins' chimney, and the final is on a nearby hill.
East of Keenbridge
Locate the castle ruins east of Keenbridge and land on the small platform by the turret to activate the first trace. Use Confringo on the vines and barrels inside to grab the next one under the wooden construction. Fly up to the levels above to get 2 more traces near the astronomy table location.
South of Brocburrow
The final Ancient Magic Hotspot in Hogwarts Valley is discoverable in the castle ruins south of Brocburrow. Investigate the first trace at the castle entrance and follow the path right, defeating any spiders, for the next 2. Climb the roofed fence outside to reach the final one.
Feldcroft Region Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations
There are 4 Ancient Magic Hot Spots in the Feldcroft Region as follows:
The first is west of the West Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame by the Small Bandit Camp. Head to the turret to find 2 more, with the remaining traces in the opposite building.
The second is in the wrecked building north of the Feldcroft Floo Flame by the vendor location. The traces are by the wall near the arch, up the wooden scaffolding, and at the top of the building.
The third is inside the ruins east of the Feldcroft Floo Flame. The traces spread around each stone ruin in the area, with the final one deviously inside the troll tent.
The final Feldcroft Region Hot Spot is discoverable inside the castle ruins southwest of the Irondale Floo Flame. The traces are by the archway entrance, behind a set of vines, up the stairs to the left, and on top of the ledge opposite the stairs.
Poisdear Coast Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations
Players can find 2 Hot Spots on the Poisdear Coast. The first is next to the South Poidsear Coast Floo Flame. Begin at the front of the bridge and head inside the adjoining ruined building to find 3 traces, using Lumos against the Devil's Snare.
The second is in the ruined building south of the Phoenix Mountain Floo Flame. Use level 1 Alohomora to open the gated entrance and blast the rocks inside with Confringo to find a trace above a toilet. The remaining ones are discoverable in the upper levels, accessible using Accio and Arresto Momentum spell combination on the block.
Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hot Spot Locations
There are 2 Ancient Magic Hot Spots in Marunweem Lake. The first is by the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame. Use Reparo to access the upper levels, killing any goblins and unlocking the level 3 door at the top. The trace is on a nearby boat on the Lake.
The second is by the ruins opposite the Coastal Mine Floo Flame, with the first trace in the small graveyard where many Inferius spawn. Players can find the rest in the building's upper levels and behind the gate mechanism.
Manor Cape Ancient Magic Hot Spot Location
There is 1 Ancient Magic Hot Spot in Manor Cape located northwest of the Manor Cape Floo Flame inside the Manor House upper levels, all reachable by broom despite the level 2 locked door.
Cragcroftshire Magic Hot Spot Location
The final Ancient Magic Hot Spot is the tower southeast of the Cragcroft Shore Floo Flame. All traces are discoverable in the tower, except for the positioned externally.
Ancient Magic Hotspot Exploration Challenge Rewards
Players receive up to 3 additional Ancient Magic Meter capacity slots for completing hot spot locations, with a maximum of 5 slots overall:
- 2 hot spots = 1 additional slot.
- 6 hot spots = 1 additional slot
- 12 hot spots = 1 additional slot
