Completing all Merlin Trials in the South Sea Bog Region is arguably the easiest challenge players might face in Hogwarts Legacy. That’s because the small Region only contains two Merlin Trials. Additionally, South Sea Bog is a small area that can be accessed early to mid-game.
Completing Merlin Trials is essential as it allows players to increase their Gear capacity in Hogwarts Legacy. Once a certain number of Merlin Trials are finished, it’s possible to collect rewards from the Challenges' category in the main menu. Although South Sea Bog only possesses two Merlin Trials, it’s advised to not skip them as players will need all the Trials possible to increase the inventory.
All South Sea Bog Merlin Trials In Hogwarts Legacy
There are a total of two Merlin Trials in South Sea Bog and solving the puzzles requires specific spells like Lumos. But most importantly, Mallowsweet Leaves are crucial to activate any Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy. The available Trials are:
- Firefly Puzzle
- Orbs Pillars Puzzle
Merlin Trial #1 - Firefly Puzzle
The first Merlin Trial is found southeast of the Northern South Sea Bog Floo Flame. It’s possible to reach the destination by flying on a Broom, a mount, or walking on foot. Keep in mind that walking on foot means that the student will face a couple of enemies along the way like Cottongrass Dugbog.
Trigger the Merlin Trial using a Mallowsweet Leaf in Hogwarts Legacy and use Revelio to locate three moonstone pillars. To activate them, it’s crucial to lure in some fireflies using Lumos.
- The first swarm can be seen southeast, behind the moonstone pillar.
- The following swarm is found southwest, hidden behind a giant tree.
- For the last swarm of fireflies, run north to find it on top of a small hill.
Guide each swarm individually back to the moonstone pillars in Hogwarts Legacy to complete the first Merlin Trial.
Merlin Trial #2 - Orbs Pillars Puzzle
The second Merlin Trial can be found by heading south from the first Trial. It’s surrounded by enemies from every direction, which means that it’s incredibly difficult to solve the puzzle in Hogwarts Legacy unless players empty the camp.
Once the enemies are taken care of, approach the Merlin altar and interact with it to start the Trial. Protagonists need to find and destroy nine orbs pillars using basic attacks or any spell in Hogwarts Legacy. Upon using Revelio to pinpoint the pillars’ locations, players can find:
- Three pillars south of the Merlin altar.
- Three can be seen north by jumping from the cliff.
- The final three orbs pillars are southeast of the previous three pillars.
How To Get Mallowsweet
There are two methods to get Mallowsweet Leaves to activate Merlin Trials:
- Purchase Mallowsweet Seeds from The Magic Neep in Hogsmeade to plant them inside the Room of Requirement in Hogwarts Legacy.
- Buy one Leaf for 100 Galleons from multiple vendors found scattered around the map.
