To upgrade gear in Hogwarts Legacy, players must complete The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom main quest in Hogwarts Legacy and then use the Loom to level up the gear. Upon venturing outside with Deek the Elf and capturing three beasts which are Puffskein, Jobberknoll, and Mooncalf, players return to the Room of Requirement to add another section for the beasts. After a small cutscene, a beautiful Vivarium appears, revealing a sanctuary for all the collected beasts.

At the end of the quest in Hogwarts Legacy, Deek gives players the blueprint of a Loom, which can be created using the Conjuring spell in the Room of Requirement. Interacting with the Loom opens up the menu of all possessed gear for players to upgrade.

Each upgrade requires specific materials obtained from the rescued beasts. At first, the protagonist can only obtain Puffskein Fur, Jobberknoll Feather, and Mooncalf Fur. More magical materials become available once players tame more exotic creatures.

The latter are rewarded from Combat Challenges and clearing camps while exploring. There are many different Traits found in the world of Hogwarts Legacy that can either boost a certain spell or increase players’ resistance against specific enemies. Additionally, some Traits can only be equipped to certain gear’s rarity, which is Superb, Extraordinary, and Legendary.

To upgrade a gear, approach the Loom and interact with it. Choose the desired gear to be faced with two options; increasing the stats or equipping a Trait. As players know, every piece of clothing comes with a fixed Defense and Offense stat. By using the requested magical material, it’s possible to level up those stats. As for Traits, they require Puffskein Fur to be equipped.

It’s possible to place multiple Puffskein in the sanctuary to collect a decent amount of Puffskein Fur every 25 minutes.

Magical materials can be collected from rescued beasts after brushing and feeding them in the Vivarium. To tame beasts, players must search for a paw print icon on the map of Hogwarts Legacy which indicates Beast Habitats are nearby. Approach the habitat and use the nab-sack to capture the desired creature while casting a spell in Hogwarts Legacy to slow them down like Levioso, Arresto Momentum, and Glacius.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
