In Hogwarts Legacy, players explore Hogwarts Castle, Hogsmeade Village, and countless other locales in the vicinity. Players who meet the right requirements can take a quick "field trip" to a sinister locale mentioned frequently in the Harry Potter franchise.

Visiting Azkaban in Hogwarts Legacy is only an option for players who chose a particular House at the start of the game, and it is only a very brief and linear visit, but it's still exciting to see and walk around such a storied locale, even briefly.

Which House can Visit Azkaban?

Interestingly, the Hogwarts House that must be chosen to visit Azkaban is Hufflepuff. This is because only the Hufflepuff Common Room contains the portrait of the former Minister of Magic, "Eldritch Diggory." Mr. Diggory will ask Hufflepuff players for help with something after Professor Fig has been gone for a while and will begin the Hufflepuff exclusive Quest "Prisoner of Love."

After taking the quest, players are directed to the home of Eldritch Diggory's great-niece, Helen Thistlewood. In her time as an Auror, she apparently dealt with a murder case connected to the book players recovered from the Restricted Section earlier on.

Helen explains that Richard Jackdaw vanished, and his ghost briefly appeared headless in Hogsmeade. This resulted in a girl named Anne, who was in a relationship with Jackdaw at the time, being accused of his murder. This was aided by false testimony from Apollonia Black, who was jealous of the pair.

Anne was apparently given a puzzle to solve by Jackdaw before they could meet, which she was unable to solve before his death and her subsequent imprisonment, and Helen suspects she may have solved it during her time in Azkaban. Anne is unwilling to speak to most people, however, feeling understandably disinclined to trust anyone after the false imprisonment and torture at the hands of the Dementors.

Helen thinks a Hogwarts Student who also uncovered the same mystery Jackdaw was investigating when he died might be able to get through to Anne and get the clue needed to prove her innocence. This leads to her offering to bring the player to Azkaban, and after apparating and using a Patronus Charm to repel the Dementors, it's time to meet Anne.

This visit to Azkaban is essentially a walk down a single wide hallway, listening to the jeers and cries of the poor prisoners. There is an open cell that can be entered on the left side, though doing so seems to serve no purpose, and Anne's cell is at the far end of the hall. After speaking to her and gaining the information needed to investigate further, hopefully clearing her name, a surprise attack forces Helen to apparate away with the player. While short, this sequence really manages to show just how dreadful Azkaban is.

Hogwarts Legacy is available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. It's in development for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
