Hogwarts Legacy allows its players to experience a completely new side of the wizarding world. The main story follows a young fifth-year student during their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and though much of the game requires them to attend class, they are also permitted to forge their own path if they wish.

Hogwarts Legacy is full of optional content that further enhances the game's world and lets players shape their own stories. That said, certain activities only become available by progressing the plot and unlocking new features. One such feature allows players to breed a variety of magical beasts, but figuring out how breeding works can be a little tricky at first.

Capturing Beasts

Hogwarts Legacy Entering The Room Of Requirement

To acquire the trophy and achievement, The Nature of the Beast, players will need to find and capture twelve magical creatures, return them to the Room of Requirement, and breed them. While players can also capture a Phoenix, it is impossible to breed a set of them, which makes the overall breeding process a tad bit easier.

For players to capture beasts, they must first complete the main quest, The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom, from which they will be given the means to do so. Next, the players should speak to Deek and complete the side quest entitled The Plight of the House-Elf, after which, they should begin Foal of the Dead. Once the Foal of the Dead quest has been completed, players should purchase a Beast Breeding Pen from the Tomes and Scrolls shop in Hogsmeade and place it in their Vivarium.

Once these steps have been taken, players can begin their search for magical beasts in the world of Hogwarts Legacy. To capture a beast, all the player needs to do is sneak up behind one and activate the Nab-Sack, a magical item that will house whatever creature it is aimed at. Most creatures in Hogwarts Legacy tend to get spooked when approached, however, so the player should make use of the Disillusionment Charm if they keep getting spotted.

Breeding Beasts

While capturing beasts is a pretty straightforward process, breeding them requires a little bit more effort. To successfully breed two creatures, the player must first have captured a male and a female beast of the same species. Upon doing so, said beasts should be placed in the Beast Breeding Pen in the Room of Requirement.

To begin the breeding process, the book outside the Beast Breeding Pen must be interacted with. Once this has been done, the player will need to wait thirty minutes until the breeding process is complete and a new beast has been born.

Sadly, not all creatures in Hogwarts Legacy can be bred, but that makes obtaining the trophy and achievement, The Nature of the Beast, that much easier to unlock. For players who wish to breed them all, these twelve beasts must be found, captured, and brought to the Room of Requirement:

  • Diricawl
  • Fwooper
  • Giant Purple Toad
  • Graphorn
  • Hippogriff
  • Jobberknoll
  • Kneazle
  • Mooncalf
  • Niffler
  • Puffskein
  • Thestral
  • Unicorn

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
