After launching last month, Hogwarts Legacy has managed to become a major hit for Avalanche Software, Portkey Games, and Warner Bros. In fact, Hogwarts Legacy has already passed a major sales milestone in the first two weeks alone, and with the game eventually coming to more platforms like the Switch later this year, things appear to be bright for the title.

Part of the appeal of Hogwarts Legacy is that it lets fans live out their fantasies as a member of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry inside the Wizarding World made popular by the Harry Potter franchise. Players take on the role of a fifth year student and through RPG style mechanics, can customize their character through new gear as well as learning important spells and even some of the more powerful and forbidden dark wizard ones like avada kedavra.

While Hogwarts Legacy takes place well before the time of Harry Potter, fans may notice some familiar sights including Hogsmeade Village. The game also has plenty of nods and Easter eggs to the larger franchise, including a customizable space inside of Hogwarts called the Room of Requirement. Here's what it is and how to expand it even further.

Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement

What is the Vivarium?

The Room of Requirement is an important space within Hogwarts Legacy, one that lets players customize their own space with a variety of upgrades. Inside of the Wizarding World, the Room of Requirement is a space that can take the form of whatever the person requires at that time. In terms of Hogwarts Legacy, it becomes a place for the player to spend time cultivating plants, upgrading gear, and much more.

Players also gain access to a Vivarium, a huge space where players can place any animals they come across like the Thestral, Nifler, Unicorns, and much more. The default Vivarium space can hold up to 12 animals at a time, though there is a further restriction which limits the creatures placed to only a maximum of 4 different species. Thankfully, players can further expand out this space to hold more magical creatures through unlocking new biomes.

How to Get More Vivariums

More space is always welcome, especially for those looking to expand out the number of creatures on display. However, adding new biomes to the default Vivarium will involve a bit of story progression as well as work to make it happen. Here is how Hogwarts Legacy players can add three new biomes to the default one in the Vivarium.

Coastal Vivarium

The first possible addition to the Vivarium is one that takes the form of the coastline. With it unlocked, players will see rolling waves on a beach as well as rocky cliffs overlooking the water. To unlock this Vivarium, players will have needed to first catch 10 creatures in total and began the Plight of the House Elves side quest for the Room of Requirement attendant called Deek. Once these requirements have been met, the Coastal Vivarium becomes available during the Fall.

With it unlocked, players have another 12 available spaces, though with the same four different species restriction.

Swamp Vivarium

The second upgrade is the Swamp Vivarium. This one is again tied behind story progression as players will have needed to complete the Plight of the House Elves side quest completely as well as the Charles Rookwood's Trial from the main storyline.

Once these conditions have been met, Professor Weasley will inform players that Deek has another task, this time involving breeding beasts. This will kick off the Foal of the Dead side quest, which ultimately unlocks the Swamp Vivarium during the winter.

As expected, players gain another 12 spaces, though the four species restriction remains in place.

Deek

Mountain Vivarium

The final upgrade is the Mountain Vivarium, and it only becomes available after the Niamh Fitzgerald's Trial quest is finished. Deek will once again have a task for the player called Phoenix Rising, and completing this side quest will ultimately unlock the Mountain Vivarium upgrade later in the winter.

Once more, another 12 spaces are unlocked with the usual 4 species restriction. With this upgrade, the Vivarium section inside the Room of Requirement is finally complete.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
