Mounts are a vital asset in Hogwarts Legacy as they help players reach a desired location much quicker and will certainly facilitate the exploration process. It’s not surprising that some prefer to mount Beasts instead of a typical Broom, as riding a Beast has a different feel than a mere Broom.

The Protagonists have to complete a certain quest to unlock the flying mounts in Hogwarts Legacy and another one to unlock the ground mount. Sadly, the latter is obtained late-game, so it will take a while before players get to ride a ground mount.

How To Get All Mounts In Hogwarts Legacy

To get all mounts, it’s crucial that players complete The High Keep main quest in Hogwarts Legacy and the San Bakar's Trial main quest. The former unlocks flying mounts while the latter unlocks ground mounts. Beasts' Dens' locations are marked by a paw icon on the discovered side of the map, so it shouldn’t be very difficult to pinpoint the creatures’ locations.

Flying Mounts

There are two Beasts that players can rescue and ride, which are the Hippogriff and the Thestral. The first flying mount people will get is Highwing the Hippogriff, obtainable after The High Keep quest. Afterward, it’s possible to use the Nab-Sack in Hogwarts Legacy to rescue more flying mounts and breed them inside the Vivarium. As to their locations:

  • Thestral: There exists only two Dens in Hogwarts Legacy; one in North Ford Bog and one in the Marunweem Lake.
  • Hippogriff: Unlike Thestral, there are five Hippogriff Dens on the map:
    • Forbidden Forest
    • Hogwarts Valley
    • Feldcroft
    • Poidsear Coast
    • Manor Cape

Ground Mount

There is only one ground mount, which is the Graphorn. While completing San Bakar's Trial main quest, the Keeper admits that players will have to test their Magizoology skills to complete the trial. Once it was revealed that a Graphorn is crucial to complete the trial, the Protagonists try to find the Lord of the Shore.

After fighting the Graphorn using a variety of spells, choosing Kneel or Attack will yield the same results but with a different cutscene. Once players mount the Graphorn, it will become possible to travel on its back while also using its charge attack to defeat a group of enemies. Unlike Phoenix in Hogwarts Legacy, It’s also possible to breed the Graphorn in the Room of Requirement.

How To Change Mounts In Settings

To change mount, players need to open the settings and head to the Gear Tab in Hogwarts Legacy. On the right side will be two squares representing players’ Broom and flying mounts options.

To change any of the settings, simply click on the square and pick the desired mount. Keep in mind that there's no ground mount option as there is only one type available. These squares will be locked at the beginning of the game and become accessible later on once players complete the necessary quests.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
